Kolkatta: The West Bengal government has extended the Covid-related restrictions for the next 15 days due to the state's proximity to Bangladesh, which is one of the 12 nations classified 'at risk' by the Centre due to the breakout of Covid variant Omicron.
The current Covid protocol will be extended through December 15, according to a state government announcement. The government has also requested that the police and administration enforce a rigorous night-curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. People have been instructed not to leave their homes during this time unless an emergency arises.
At night, no movement will be permitted unless in medical circumstances. In addition, the state government has urged everyone to wear masks and keep social distance in order to prevent the spread of this 'particularly transmissible' Covid strain. However, the government is not considering a lockdown in this circumstance, and offices have been instructed to properly follow all covid requirements, according to the announcement.
The Centre has already identified 12 countries as 'at risk' due to the spread of this new variety in various countries throughout the world. The United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Israel are among the countries on this list. Singapore and Bangladesh are two of these countries with whom the state has direct flights.
