Kolkata: Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, a minister in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, wants to end the post of governor of the state. Mamata's minister herself made this suggestion during an event. Sovandeb Chatterjee says the chief justice of the state should take over these responsibilities. Let me tell you that in the past, there have been reports of TMC's differences with former governor and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Chattopadhyay, a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government, said he had made such suggestions in the past and several government commissions have also included the suggestion. He said "I think the chief justice of the state should take up the responsibilities of the governor of the state. The Chief Justice can look into the aspects of the law that the Governor takes care of right now. Chatterjee has said that his proposal is not limited to West Bengal alone.''

Shobhandev Chattopadhyay said, "This is not just for my state. Since there is a multi-party system in the country, sometimes a particular party is at the Centre and other parties are in power in the state. In such a situation, there are differences between the two parties, which affect development.'' He said "I think there is no need to continue these differences. Since the Chief Justice is a non-political person and he knows the law better, he should look after the responsibilities of the Governor.''
