Kolkata: Unlike the entire country in The Nadia district of West Bengal, Independence Day is celebrated on August 18. The people of the district participate in it,This time also people took tricolour in their hands and sang the national anthem 'Jana Mana' and participated in several competitions.

Let us tell you why Independence Day is celebrated here on 18th August. In fact, on August 12, 1947, it was announced that India would be liberated and that On August 14, Pakistan will celebrate its independence day and India would celebrate on August 15. At that time, Nadia, a province of independent India, had not got independence.

A total of 5 sub-departments in Nadia district and Hindu dominated areas moved to Maiharpur, Chuadanga, Kushtia and Ranaghat, Pakistan. Then, atrocities started on the people. The then Rani Jyotirmaya Devi, Shayama Prasad Mukherjee, Kaboo Lahiri, and other people agitated against it. He said that these are Hindu-dominated areas and they moved to Pakistan along the border line. Then the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten called all these agitators and asked, "Why are you agitating?" Then everybody spoke and said that the province belongs to India and has gone to Pakistan. He asked to correct the map.

After considering the matter, Viceroy Lord Mountbatten called Radcliffe and asked him to look at the map and explain what was right. Then Radcliffe said that by mistake these areas had gone to Pakistan. Subsequently, on August 17, 1947, it was announced that Krishnanagar and Ranaghat Sub-Department were being inducted into India on August 18, 1947. Since then, Independence Day is celebrated in Nadia district on 18th August.
