Kolkata: The Union Home Ministry has entrusted the investigation of the violence in Mominpur, West Bengal to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The state's main opposition party, the BJP, was constantly demanding a central agency to investigate the violence. Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had alleged that action is not being taken against the rioters due to their religion (being Muslim). The officer had demanded Governor LA Ganeshan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately deploy the Central Force in Mominpur and conduct an NIA investigation.

In fact, during the Navratri festival in Khirdipur Mominpur area of West Bengal, shops and houses of Hindus were attacked by a Muslim mob on the evening of Lakshmi Puja. During this, petrol bombs were hurled at the houses of Hindus, their huts were set on fire and vandalized. After this, radical mobs put up Islamic flags in homes and shops. In fact, on the occasion of the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad of Islam, the minority community (Muslims) forcibly put up Islamic flags on the houses and shops of the Hindus, which were removed by the Hindus. After this, radical mobs in the hundreds gathered and started arson and vandalism in the houses of Hindus. Despite several complaints to the police, no action was taken.

To investigate the Mominpur violence, the NIA team will soon reach the spot and start the investigation. NIA has registered a case regarding this violence.
