Kolkata: A case of gang rape of a minor girl has come to light from the Birbhum district of West Bengal. A tribal father sold his minor daughter as he could not repay the loan here. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and his associates then gang-raped the minor. Police have arrested TMC leader Deeptiman Ghosh, the victim's father and four others in the case.

According to the report, the gang-rape incident took place in the Sian Muluk area of Bolpur in the Birbhum district. The accused Diptiman Ghosh is a panchayat member of TMC. According to the victim's family, the victim's father had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Deeptiman Ghosh. However, when he could not repay the loan, on March 31, 2022, this year, he sent his minor daughter to the TMC leader. After which Ghosh along with other people of the village gang-raped the minor. According to media reports, the girl was initially gang-raped by local youths on March 31 and also threatened to keep her mouth shut.  According to the report, the local youth is none other than TMC leader Deeptiman Ghosh. After this, the victim reached her aunt's house and got her treatment done, during that time also she kept quiet due to the fear of the locals. However, as soon as the victim returned to Bolpur, the accused TMC leader and three others gang-raped her again.  

When the victim run out of patience, she told the whole thing to her cousin and both of them went to the police station to lodge a complaint. Following this, a case was registered against the accused at Bolpur police station under sections 376D (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and prevention of child sexual offences Act-2012 (POCSO) of the IPC. The police arrested the accused and produced them before a local court. The court remanded him to police custody on Wednesday (April 13). Birbhum Superintendent of Police Nagendra Nath Tripathi said that the matter is being investigated and the victim has been admitted to the hospital.
