Kolkata: Police have fiercely charged lathis on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Bengal's Cooch Behar. In the case of the murder of a party worker, the BJP workers had blocked the road, against which the police charged lathi. BJP workers called for a shutdown.

According to media reports, the police tried to evacuate the road. During this time there was an argument between the police and BJP workers. Police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. It is being told that there was a clash between BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers before the police lathi charge. After which the police had to lathicharge to normalize the situation.

Some BJP workers have also been injured in police lathicharge. At present, the police have arrested Kamal Burman, the main accused in the murder of the BJP worker. The BJP had called a 12-hour bandh on Thursday, making the issue of killing the party worker. Party workers said during this time that TMC is constantly targeting BJP workers but the police is not doing anything.
