Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) is leading in the by-election to 4 assembly seats in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee's party's lead in the early trends of counting, which began at 8 am, is intact. Polling for bypolls to Dinhata, Gosaba, Khardah and Shantipur assembly seats was held on October 30. The lead of TMC candidates in all seats remains intact.

In Gosaba, TMC candidate Subrata Mandal has won. Subrata Mandal has won by a huge margin of 1 lakh 51 thousand votes, the highest margin of victory in any election so far. Dinhata's TMC candidate Udayan Guha has won by one lakh, 63 thousand and five votes. After the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik in Dinhata, TMC fielded veteran leader Udayan Guha against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ashok Mandal.

The TMC, who returned to power in Bengal in May, also showed an edge in these seats, indicating that Mamata Banerjee's burning in the state remains intact. In this year's assembly elections, two of these four seats, Dinhata and Shantipur, were won by the BJP's condidate, Nisith Pramanik and Jagannath sarkar respectively.
