LONDON: West Indies captain Jason Holder, who got defeated by England team with eight wickets in the ICC World Cup 2019 on Friday, has said that the team batted poorly in the middle overs and lost the match. W. Indies' strong batting order piled up just 212 runs in 44.4 overs against England's bowlers.

"We didn't have many runs on the board," Holder said after the match. We lost wickets at regular intervals and also played some careless shots. If we were to survive and had partnerships, we could have run more. Losing the toss was unfortunate for us but we played well in the powerplay. We lost the match in the middle overs. Our batsmen have to take more responsibility and have partnerships.

"We could not read the wicket well on the fast and the short ball could not reach much height, but when you have to save the target of 213 runs, you just have to take the wicket. The West Indies will play their next match against Bangladesh at Tonton on 17 June.
