Antigua: The great West Indies batsman Everton Weekes has died at the age of 95. He was born on 26 February 1925. He breathed his last on Wednesday. He had a heart attack in 2019 and had been ill since then. Weekes played 48 Test matches for the West Indies between 1948 and 1958, and he scored 4455 runs at an average of 58.62. He also scored 15 centuries during this period.

Weekes has a record of scoring a century in five consecutive innings. His average was 58.61, which is the lowest among the West Indies players. He also holds the record for achieving the fastest 1000 Test runs in the world. Apart from him, England's Herbert Sutcliffe is the second player who has done this feat in 12 innings. Weekes has scored 12,010 runs in 152 first class matches at an average of 55.34. During this, he also scored 26 centuries.

Weekes' highest score in first-class cricket is 304 not out. He also holds the world record for most consecutive centuries in Test cricket. He scored 5 consecutive Test centuries in 1948 against England and India. He had played consecutive innings of 128, 194, 162 and 101 runs against these two countries. Weekes could set a record for scoring his sixth consecutive century, but he was dismissed after scoring 90 runs.
