JUBA: According to the World Food Program (WFP), USD 1.29 million has been given to provide humanitarian aid in South Sudan.

The funding comes at a crucial time as the North African country is dealing with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and has seen a sharp increase in the number of malnourished children, said Adeyinka Badejo, the acting country director of WFP in South Sudan.

The timing of this French gift is crucial since the youngsters affected by it appear to be in despair, Badejo said.  The French contribution will be essential in treating and preventing malnutrition for some of the most vulnerable mothers and children, according to the World Food Program in South Sudan.

The WFP stated that it will utilise the gift to give 24,222 children between the ages of 6 and 23 months, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, specialist nutrition assistance for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition.
25 000 more people, mostly women, will participate in training and awareness-raising sessions on nutritional best practises. More than 7.74 million people are becoming hungry, due to the country's protracted civil war, the impact of climate shocks like flooding, and the current economic crisis.
