As the auspicious month of Shravan has begun, lord Shiva is worshipped by his devotees with the most love. The month always begins with Monday and ends on Monday as well. Today is the second Monday of worshipping. This month includes the festival of 'Nag Panchami' wherein,'Naag Devta' is worshipped, happens this Saturday, 25 July. In this month of Shravan, with Lord Shiva  Naag Devta most loved by him is also praised.

A snake always surrounds the neck of Lord Shiva. Do you know about the snake? Let us tell you that the serpent enshrined is Vasuki.

Vasuki remains enthralled by Lord Shiva's neck and is most loved by Lord Shiva too. Serpent god, known as the lord of Panchami of the fifth day (tithi) of the fortnight (paksha) in the Hindu lunar calendar, is the main reason behind celebrating Nagpanchami every year.  On this day fasting and special worshipping of the snake deity is done. People worship Serpent god in homes, as well as temples and worshipping places. This year, the birth anniversary of Lord Kalki falls on the day of Nag Panchami.
