Panaji: The dates for assembly elections in Goa have been announced and election campaigns have also started from political parties. All parties are engaged in setting political equations on their own. However, after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) entered the fray in Goa, the contest here has become quadrilateral. The Congress is believed to be contesting the Goa elections in the TMC alliance.

However, veteran Congress leader KC Venugopal has made it clear that there has been no talks between Trinamool Congress and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the pre-poll alliance. In a tweet on Monday, KC Venugopal said that there are rumours that Rahul Gandhi today held talks on a possible alliance with TMC, but the news is completely baseless and false. He further said, 'I assure you that the Congress party is confident that we will return to power in Goa and bring the state back to the path of progress soon.'

Earlier, Congress sources had informed on Monday yesterday that Rahul Gandhi had returned home on Sunday night from a so-called 'private visit' abroad. After returning home, Rahul Gandhi has held a virtual meeting with party general secretary KC Venugopal and senior party observer for Goa P Chidambaram through video conferencing. In this meeting, he discussed the election preparedness of the Congress.
