Mumbai: The effect of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's announcement to remove loudspeakers of Azaan from mosques has begun to be seen at many places in Mumbai. In many places, Muslims themselves have removed loudspeakers from mosques. The same information is now coming that out of 2400 temples, Mumbai Police has given permission to play loudspeakers in only 24 temples, while in mosques this figure is 950.

On the other hand, if we look at the permission given to mosques as compared to temples, then this figure is much higher. Mumbai Police said on Wednesday that only 24 out of around 2,400 temples in the city have received permission to use loudspeakers, while 950 mosques out of a total of 1,140 mosques have been given permission by the authorities.

A police officer said that according to the data available with the Mumbai Police, only one percent of temples in the metropolis have taken permission to use loudspeakers in their premises. At present, there is a controversy over the use of loudspeakers by religious places in other parts of the country including Maharashtra. The police officer said that the data regarding the use of loudspeakers by other religious places like churches, gurudwaras, Buddhist monasteries and places of worship of Jews is still being collected by the police and the management of these places of worship is to take permission to install loudspeakers.
