Popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, has started taking steps to ensure that it's not used to spread fake news as just few days are left for the Lok Sabha election.  The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has been under the scanner for acting as a platform for spreading unverified news as WhatsApp forwards.

WhatsApp is now testing two new features called "Forwarding Info" and "Frequently Forwarded". While the former tells users how many times a message they sent has been forwarded, the latter adds a label above a sent message marking it as a "Frequently Forwarded" after it gets forwarded more than four times.

Talking about the features, the features were first spotted by WABetaInfo, which claims the features are currently in the development phase, and as of now only available as part of version 2.19.80 of WhatsApp's Beta Android app. However, it is not confirmed that the features will be rolled out to iOS or not. But since they have already been spotted on Beta on Android, expected them to be ported to iOS soon and be available on all Android devices in the coming weeks.

The messaging platform has adding many features to its platform over the last few months. However, more interesting are the features that currently exist in testing and are scheduled to be added to the stable version of the messaging app in the coming days. These include a host of new features like a new in-app browser, reverse search of images, new emojis, and status feed. Another interesting feature that is slated to be added to WhatsApp is the Dark Mode.
