WhatsApp's New Double Tap Feature: Enhancing User Experience

Meta's WhatsApp is one of the most widely used social media platforms globally. To ensure a seamless user experience, the company continuously updates this instant messaging app. A new feature, akin to Instagram's double tap, is in the works to make the app more engaging. Currently under testing, this feature will soon be available. Let’s dive into what this new WhatsApp feature is all about.

WhatsApp's New Feature for Android

The new feature is being developed for the Android app. According to WABetaInfo, it has been spotted in the Android Beta version 2.24.16.7. Although still under development, it hasn't been released to beta testers yet. However, users should update their WhatsApp app from the Google Play Store to ensure they can take advantage of this feature as soon as it becomes available.

Double Tap Feature on WhatsApp

The double tap feature on WhatsApp is designed to allow users to react to messages quickly. Similar to Instagram’s double tap feature, where double tapping sends a heart emoji as a reaction, WhatsApp’s version aims to reduce the time it takes to react to messages. This feature will streamline interactions, making it faster and easier to respond to messages.

How the New Feature Works

This feature is being introduced alongside the media viewer screen’s reaction shortcut. WABetaInfo shared a post demonstrating how WhatsApp users can double tap a message to react to it. By default, double tapping will send a heart emoji. It remains unclear if users will be able to change the default emoji to another one.

Current Reaction Method

Currently, reacting to a message on WhatsApp involves a few steps. Users need to press and hold a message to open the emoji section, where they can select their desired emoji to react. For more emoji options, users can tap the plus symbol. This new double tap feature aims to simplify and speed up this process, providing a more efficient way to interact with messages.
