Asha  Parekh was one of the popular actresses of that times. Asha Parekh was born in a middle-class Gujarati household to a Hindu father, Pranlal Parekh, and a Muslim mother Sudha Parekh on October 2, 1942 in India. Asha  Parekh worked in various films  and enjoyed a massive fan following but when Asha Parekh took some such decisions during her tenure as the chairman of the censor board the actress was called hitler.

When Asha Parekh took over as the Censor Board President. She was the first woman to be elected as the Chairperson of the Censor Board (between 1998 and 2001. She was also elected the President of CINTAA (Cine and TV Artists Association). She took some decision which made people against her.

Fire

Deepa Mehta's film 'Fire' created a sensation everywhere. This film showing the lesbian relationship between Devrani-Jethani was released in 1996.  It became a major hit around the world but in India it landed in trouble. She reveals in her biography why she supported the decision of banning it. The actress said,“I agreed with the Censorship Committee that the love between two women is depicted in the film with great decency and beauty. No one had made any recommendation to get this film cleared from the censors. There was nothing like that in the film. So there was neither any reason to ban this film nor to use scissors on the kissing scene of Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das.”

Asha Parekh gave the green signal to the release of 'Fire', but there was a ruckus in the political parties. Bal Thackeray of Shiv Sena refused to let the film release. There were protests at the Getty Galaxy and Eros Cinemas where the film 'Fire' was screened.

Jakhm

 In 1998, there was a lot of ruckus on the film 'Jakhm'. Asha Parekh had a rift with Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt regarding the film. Asha Parekh has written in the book, 'The Censor Board believed that the film should be shown to the senior officers of the police department before its release because the way the people who incited the riots were portrayed in it could create a ruckus. was. But Mukesh Bhatt refused.

Mahesh Bhatt along with Tanuja Chandra and others stood outside the office carrying abusive slogans. Most of these abuses were for me. However, later Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt agreed with the Censor Board's decision. Some scenes were blurred before release in 'Zakhm' and some were cut.'

Elizabeth

After this Shekhar Kapur's film 'Elizabeth'. The censor board gave it an 'A' certificate, but Shekhar wanted a 'U' certificate. An angry Shekhar Kapur took the support of the media and opened a front against the censor board. Articles were written against  her and she was called 'tyrant' and 'Hitler'.
