When is Mahashivratri? Learn the auspicious time and method of worship

The Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Falgun is the day when the marriage of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva took place. This day is known as Mahashivratri. It is believed that on this night, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati go on a journey together. Those who observe the Mahashivratri fast are blessed with special grace. On this day, Lord Shiva resides in the Shiva Lingam. Those who worship Lord Shiva with proper rituals on Mahashivratri find relief from sorrows and all their troubles, and they attain their desired goals. This year, Mahashivratri falls on either the 8th or 9th of March. According to the Panchang, the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of the Falgun month begins on the night of 8th March 2024 at 09:57 PM and continues until 06:17 PM on 9th March 2024.

The Shiv Purana states that on the night of Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of Falgun month, Lord Shiva manifested in the form of a Lingam in front of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. It was proclaimed that whoever worships my Linga form on this night shall attain boundless virtue. Therefore, Mahashivratri fast and worship will be observed on 8th March 2024.

Mahashivratri Puja Timings:
The Mahashivratri fast begins with sunrise and concludes the next day because many people perform Shiva's Abhishek during all four prahars of the night. However, as per tradition, some people break their fast after morning and evening prayers.
