Arun Govil needs no introduction. He was born on 12 January 1958 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He is one of the most famous celebrities of that time and the fan following was different at that time. He started his Bollywood career with the 1977 film Paheli but became famous after playing the role of Ram in the mythological serial Ramayana.  

Arun Govil started his career with his Doordarshan serial 'Sawan Ko Aane Do. This serial was aired on Doordarshan. 'Ramayana' was produced by Ramanand Sagar. It was the most popular show of that time. The show, which aired on DD National in 1987, had 100 million viewers.  People used to wait for hours to watch the serials. His fan following was so big that people used to consider the actors of this show as real gods.

There is an interesting incident about Television’s Ram, People used to love him so much that whenever they see him they started touching his feet.  In an interview Arun Govil narrating an interesting story when he was shooting for Ramayana said, “I used to smoke a lot at that time. As soon as I got a break from shooting, I used to go behind the scenes of the set and start smoking. “

He further added , “Once during the lunch break, when I went behind the curtain to smoke a cigarette, an unknown person came up to me and began to say something to me in his own language. I did not understand his language, although I could understand that he was saying something bad to me. I called a person on the set and asked him what this person was trying to say.  He said that the person is saying that people worship you like Lord Ram and you are smoking here. It touched my heart and till date, I have never touched a cigarette.

On the professional front, Arun Govil made his debut on the big screen with the film 'Paheli'. He has featured in films like 'Sawan Ko Aane Do', 'Ayyash', 'Bhoomi', 'Himmatwala', 'Do Aankhen Barah Haath' and 'Luv Kush'.
