These days Bikini photoshoots are very normal but in 60s it is very big thing. Sharmila Tagore shocked everyone in the 60s  with her Bikini Photoshoot. Sharmila Tagore appeared in front of the audience wearing a bikini for the first time in the 60s. It created a big ruckus at that time that the matter even discussed in  Indian Parliament.

In the year 1966, Sharmila was seen wearing a bikini on the cover page of the August issue of Filmfare magazine. Sharmila has been the first such actress of her era, who got a bikini photoshoot done for a magazine. She also became the first Indian actress to pose in a bikini for Filmfare magazine. When Sharmila was asked what will she wear for the photoshoot. The actress took out two pieces from purse and shot. Even the photographer were embarrassed.

Sharmila once recalling the incident said, “In those days there was no social media but still it was criticized a lot. I was in London when this was published. When I came back, Shakti Samant ji called me and said that we should do some damage control. I was very upset. I sent a telegram to Tiger (Nawab Pataudi) and he said I think you are looking very good. He was very supportive at that time.”

She further said, “If you are a public figure then you have some responsibilities. You have to understand who your audience is and what they want from you. I learned from this incident that people are attracted towards glamor but they have no respect for it. I wanted to be respected, so I slowly started changing my image. I also played the role of mother in the film Aradhana, after which my popularity increased a lot.”

On the career front, Sharmila Tagore started her acting career with the 1964 film 'Kashmir Ki Kali'. After this, she joined the list of best actresses with films like 'Waqt', 'Anupama' and 'Devar'. Sharmila married Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in the year 1968.
