When will the first monsoon rains hit Delhi? The Met department has predicted

New Delhi: TheSouth-West Monsoon will hit Delhi around its normal date of June 27 and the lack of rainfall is expected to be compensated by the end of June. The pre-monsoon rains in the last three days have reduced the rainfall deficit in Delhi by 34 per cent and the maximum temperature has dropped to around 30 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has given information in this regard on Monday.

The Safdarjung observatory had recorded a maximum temperature of 30.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is the lowest temperature of this month since June 17, 2013. Delhi has recorded 23.8 mm of rainfall since June 1, while the period normally receives 36.3 mm. It has rained in the last four days. Head (Meteorology) of Skymet Weather G.P. Sharma informed that in the next two to three days, an area of cyclonic winds will form over West Bengal, northern Odisha and parts of adjoining Bangladesh, which will bring about a change in the air system in the Indus-Gangetic plains.

He further said that these cyclonic winds will initiate a normal easterly flow which is very important for the advance of monsoon in northwest India. If not exactly on June 27, delhi will receive the first monsoon rainfall around the normal date.
