Passports are essential for international travel, but did you know their costs can vary drastically depending on the country? In 2024, passport fees range from as low as Rs. 1,400 to over Rs. 19,000. While some countries offer affordable travel documents, others have hefty prices. Passports come with different price tags depending on the country you live in. The cost of obtaining a passport can range from just Rs. 1,400 to as high as Rs. 19,481 in 2024.

Cheapest Passport in the World

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) offers the cheapest passport, priced at just Rs. 1,400. Indian citizens can get a passport for Rs. 1,524.95, which is valid for 10 years, making it the second cheapest in the world. Other countries with low passport fees include Hungary and Spain in Europe, and Kenya and South Africa in Africa.

Interestingly, when we consider the 'cost per year,' the Indian passport provides the best value globally. Spain, particularly for citizens aged 30 and above, is another country offering great value, with its passport granting access to 194 countries without a visa.

In the Henley Passport Index 2024, India ranks 82nd, with holders able to visit 58 countries visa-free.

Most Expensive Passport in the World

On the other end of the spectrum, Mexico holds the title for the most expensive passport, with a fee of Rs. 19,481.75 for a 10-year validity. Mexico’s six-year passport is the fourth most expensive, and its three-year passport ranks ninth.

Australia follows closely, offering the second most expensive passport at Rs. 19,041 for a 10-year validity. The United States ranks third with a passport priced at Rs. 13,868, also valid for 10 years.
