We live in a world full of different religions and ethnicities, where many people follow various religions. According to a research on the population growth and other norms, ‘Islam’ is the fastest growing religion which will soon become the religion with highest number of followers by 2070 and will push Christianity to second rank. Although, the current situation says that all the religions will account to an increased number of followers by 2050.

The increase in followers of all the prime religions will be largely, due to fertility rates and the size of youth populations in less secular nations. Another important factor for the growth of religion is the current age distribution of each faith group.

The atheists and the agnostics will not be counted as an increase in number by 2050; also followers of Buddhism will also not be able to cope up with the pace of growing population. In 2010, 34% of the world’s Muslim population was under 15 years old, while 30% of Hindus and 27% of Christians were also under 15.

The large count of youth is responsible for the fast growing population of Islam. Hindu and Christians will keep up with a good pace with growing population at 27%. All the other religions will keep lower pace of growth as their youth population account below average. 

Also, the final factor that affects the growth of the world’s religions is when people convert to other faiths or become unaffiliated.
