'No decision yet on Trump's India visit as RD chief guest: White House press secretary

New Delhi: The White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Wednesday that the talk on US President Donald Trump's India visit will start during the US-India 2+2 dialogue in September.  He added that White House no decision has 'yet been taken' on Trump's India visit as a chief guest for the Republic Day (RD) celebrations on January 26.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Trump as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day function in January 2019, which would be the last RD celebration to be held under the current NDA government before the nation goes to polls in mid-2019.

"US President Donald Trump has received an invitation to visit India, but no decision has been taken yet, PTI quoted the White House officials as saying.

 "I know that the invitation has been extended, but I do not believe that a final decision has been made," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Wednesday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary James Mattis would be visited to New Delhi soon for the first India-US 2+2 Dialogue with their Indian counterparts External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The 2+2 dialogue would start talk on the process of a US president India visit next year, He added.

He further said that the United States and India have deep and strategic ties and we are going to keep on taking that partnership advance level with mutual co-operation.
