Many festivals are celebrated throughout the year in Hinduism. Major festivals of Hinduism also include Shraddh. Shraddh is a tradition of providing food to the fore-fathers. This tradition has been going on since the Mahabharata period. But do you know how it got started? Who was the first to perform Shraddha? Know who was the first to perform Shraddha in the Mahabharata period.

Maharishi Nimi did the first Shraddh Karma in the world. According to Mahabharata, Mahatpaswi Atri preached to Nimi Rishi for this. It was followed by Nimi Rishi. Other sages-ascetics also repeated this after Nimi Rishi. Suddenly, the deity and ancestors were fully satisfied with the feast of Shraddh. However, eating food continuously did not make the gods and fore-fathers digest food.

Pitra and the gods approached Brahma Ji with the problem of not digesting food and told him all the things. Then Brahma Ji told them that Agnidev will solve this problem. After that Pitru and the deity reach Agnidev. The gods and fore-fathers told Agnidev about this. Agnidev then resolved their problem.

Agnidev told the gods and forefathers that from now on I will also eat with you. Everyone told Agnidev that by staying close to me your food will also be digested. Hearing this from Agnidev, all the gods and fathers smiled. After this, the first food of Shraddh was offered to Agnidev. The food is then served to the gods and forefathers. Many people also perform Pind-Daan during the Shraadh.
