New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) is today able to approve the Covid-19 vaccine (covaxin) manufactured in India. The Technical Committee of the WHO is scheduled to meet today on the issue of inclusion of Covaxin of Bharat Biotech in the Emergency Use List (EUL). Earlier, the committee had sought clarifications from bharat biotech, a company that manufactures two times covaxin.

Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group sought "additional clarification" from India Biotech for conducting a final 'profit-risk assessment' to include India's indigenously manufactured anti- Covid vaccine ' Covaxin' in the emergency use list. The Technical Advisory Group is now scheduled to meet today, November 3, for final evaluation.

Earlier, on the meeting, WHO had said, 'The Technical Advisory Group decided in the meeting that additional clarifications need to be sought from the manufacturer for final profit-risk assessment in view of the global use of vaccines.' This was the second time that WHO had sought clarification from India Biotech. State that WHO has already made it clear that the vaccine has to be fully evaluated to ensure that it is safe and effective.
