The World Health Organization (WHO) last Wednesday recommended the widespread use of the world's first malaria vaccine for children. The organization has described it as a success for science, child health and malaria control. As part of the information received, the recommendation of RTS, S/AS01 malaria vaccine is based on the results of a pilot programme in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi, which was launched in 2019.

You must all know that malaria kills a child in the world every two minutes. Addressing a press conference on the recommendations of the malaria vaccine, WHO Director-General Tedros Ednom Ghebreysus said, "In addition to existing tools, 10,000 youth can be saved every year by using vaccines to prevent malaria.'' At the same time, he added, "This is a powerful new tool. But like the Corona vaccine, it is not the only tool. Vaccination against malaria does not replace or reduce the needs of other measures including bednet or fever care.''

He further said, "He was waiting for this day when malaria, which is an ancient and terrible disease, will be vaccinated and today is the day. Today is a historic day. You must be aware that malaria is transmitted by the bite of an anopheles mosquito infected female. In fact, mosquito-borne diseases cause diseases like fever, cold and flu. If the patient does not get treatment quickly, the disease can spread further and can also lead to the death of the person.''
