New Delhi: The death of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Vipin Rawat has left the country in mourning on Wednesday. No one would have imagined that December 8 would end with an irreparable loss. General Vipin Rawat, the country's first CDS, had made several innovative efforts in the defence sector swaying the Indian Army. His death has caused huge damage to the defence sector. However, the question now arises as to who will be the next qualified person for the post CDS? And on whose sides will the responsibility of the security of the country be entrusted?

the post of CDS was created to coordinate the three wings of the Army. The post of Chief of Defence Staff is above the three Chiefs of the Army. Not only that, the age limit of the person working in this post is 65 years. General Vipin Rawat was also the Chief of Defence Staff of the Department of Military Affairs. He looked after administrative functions for all three military services. The responsibility of all security agencies, organizations and cyber operations in the country is in the hands of the Chief of Defence Staff.

The Cabinet Committee on Security led by PM Narendra Modi met on Wednesday. The CCS meeting paid homage to those who lost their lives in the Mi-17 V5 accident and observed silence for two minutes. However, sources said that the name of the next CDS has also been discussed in the meeting. The most qualified name for the Post of CDS is that of Army Chief General MM Narwane. Thereafter, among those whose names are being speculated are Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary, Chief of the Indian Air Force and Admiral R. Hari Kumar is involved. Defence expert Sushant Sareen said it is not clear who the government will build the next Chief of Defence Staff. However, there is a possibility that the post may be given to a senior persian officer and experienced person and senior army officers and experienced people include the chiefs of the three services, namely, the Chiefs of the Army, navy and air force. Sources also said the Centre will elect CDS as per its permits. The situation is not clear at the moment, though army chief MM Narwane is at the top for the post.
