New Delhi: World Whisky Day is being celebrated today. The day is celebrated every year on the third Saturday of the month of May. World Whisky Day was celebrated in 2012. Today, there is no country in the world where whisky is not liked. The word whisky originated from the word usquebaugh, which means Oshki-bay. Oshki-Bay means the water of life. The word was later shortened and became the word whisky.

Let us tell you that whisky is an alcoholic drink made from wheat, jowar, rye and corn. There are usually two types of whisky, Malta whisky and grain whisky. It is said that whisky was first mentioned in Scotland in the 15th century. Whisky has been produced in the United States since the 18th century. Some of the major world class whisky producing countries today are Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Japan and India.

Scottish whisky is considered to be the best. Whisky in this country is called scotch. Whisky is also produced extensively in India. No festival can be celebrated in India or around the world without whisky. Today whisky is associated with festivals, literature, music and when you take a sip of whisky, you are relishing history.
