New Delhi: The rising inflation in India is not taking the name of stopping. Retail inflation is already at an 8-year high. Now wholesale inflation has also set a new record and it has jumped beyond 15 per cent. This is the first time since 1998 that wholesale inflation has crossed 15 per cent. Earlier, in December 1998, wholesale inflation was around 15 per cent.

According to the latest data from the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), wholesale inflation rose to 15.08 per cent in April 2022. A year ago, wholesale inflation was 10.74 per cent. A month ago, in March 2022, the rate was recorded at 14.55 per cent. This is the 13th month in a row that wholesale inflation has been over 10 per cent. Thus, the old days of high inflation in India have once again come back. In December 1998, wholesale inflation was 15.32 per cent.

If you look at the data of recent months, wholesale inflation has increased continuously over the last one year. In February this year, wholesale inflation had come down slightly to 13.43 per cent. However, after this, due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the prices of crude oil skyrocketed and the prices of things started rising. As a result, the rate of inflation also started rising rapidly. In March, wholesale inflation jumped more than one per cent to 14.55 per cent.
