Ramayana has been an epic that almost every Hindu would have come across, atleast once in a life time. Ramayana talks about the story of Rama and Sita. It talks about Rama’s childhood, how he grew up, his values, the Swayamvar that he won to have Sita into his life, their exile, Sita’s abduction by Ravana, Rama’s meeting with Hanuman, the war that broke between Rama and Ravana, Rama’s Victory, his return to Ayodhya, Sita’s vanvaas followed by the Uttar Kand.

During the entire story when Rama wins over Ravana and meets Sita, he asks her to go through a procedure called the Agnee Pareeksha. Well, that is something, a lot of us question, in the name of feminism. To question is definitely our right, but before you do that, you must know certain facts.

1.The Ramayana was originally written by Rishi Valmiki in Sanskrit.
2. It was translated into hindi for people to have a better understanding of it.
3. The ‘Padma Purana’ is a scripture that describes all the incidents that took place in the absence of Sita.
4.The Padma Puraan reveals that there were two Sitas, one was the original Sita, while the other one was Maya or an illusion. To distinguish between the two, Rama asked Sita to cross the fire.
