Chennai: Congress leader and Tamil speaker Nellai Kannan has been awarded the Kamarajar Kathir Award (Kamarajar Kathir Award) for 2021. The award was presented at a function in Chennai in the presence of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Friday (December 24). It may be recalled that Kannan is the same Congress leader who instigated Muslims to kill PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He was then arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police in January 2020.

The video of Kannan's statement went viral on social media last year. He said this while addressing a rally of the radical Islamic organisation Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Tirunelveli. The rally was held against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Kannan had said, 'Why have Muslims not killed PM Modi and Amit Shah yet? Modi's story will also be over if his (Amit Shah's) story is over. I was expecting something to happen, but no Muslim is doing it. '

The video of the Congress leader went viral on social media. The controversial remarks were also highly appreciated by the Muslim people who attended the rally. But, on a large scale, Kannan's provocative remarks were criticised. Bjp's Tamil Nadu state general secretary K S Narendran had lodged a FIR against Kannan. After which he was arrested and sent to Salem Central Jail. However, he was also granted bail within a week.
