Meaning of the word Akshay is very crucial. Akshay means something that cannot be destroyed. So this means whatever we purchase or the work we start never remains suspended in between. It is believed that Lord Ganesha or Vighna Vinashak started penning down Mahabharat from this day on wards as dictated to him by rishi Ved Vyas. It is said that Akshay Tritiya is the day when the Golden era or the Satya yug started. It was a divine era when deities lived on this Earth in complete peace and purity. In Jainism too this day is considered sacred as the first among the 24 Tirthankaras- Lord Rishabh deva is associated with this day.

Akshay Tritiya is considered auspicious and is associated as a day when Lord Kuber blesses his devotees with prosperity and wealth. Farmers in North India specially the Jat community start any sort of plantation on this day. Akshay Tritiya is marked as Lord Parshuram's birthday. He is considered as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Many important dates in the HIndu calendar happened on Akshaya Tritiya. They are: Lord Vishnu’s sixth incarnation Lord Parasurama was born on this day.
Lord Ganesha began writing the epic Mahabharata on this day. Lord Kuber prayed to Shiva to return his wealth on this auspicious day. Indeed, Kuber got his wealth back and has since been associated with unsurpassed wealth. The Pandavas received akshay patra from Krishna on this mahurat, a vessel in which the food never diminishes. Sudama and Kuchela visited Krishna in Dwarka with beaten rice or poha on this date. Akshaya Trithiya marked the beginning of Treta Yuga, therefore it is also known as Yug Thithi. It is also the day when the holy river Ganga descended on earth.
