Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday called the non-obligation to comply with new covid rules for lining up outside bar or beverage corporation (BEVCO) shops in the state as awe-inspiring, surprising and absurd. These rules have to be followed when they visit any shop in the state and the customer should have at least one dose of the vaccine or the report RTPCR is negative.

Justice Devan Ramachandran asked the state government why the government order on the mandatory requirement of at least one dose of vaccine or its negative RTPCR investigation report within 72 hours to the customer to go to the shops is not valid at bars or beverage corporation shops. Where long queues take place for hours. The court further said that new guidelines should also be applicable to such establishments. Justice Ramachandran said, "It is very amazing, surprising and absurd that the August 4 government order is not valid for buying liquor. When the August 4 government order is valid everywhere else, why not buy liquor? Why is it not followed at bars and liquor shops?''

The court said it believes the government order should also apply to such shops as "it will speed up vaccination." It said that if vaccination is made mandatory for buying alcohol, 'more and more people will adopt it.' The high court will now hear the matter further on August 11.
