Bholenath means Bhola i.e. childlike innocence, Nath means God, owner, etc. The question arises in the minds of many people why Shiva is called Bhola. So let's tell you that Shiva does not have any cleverness nor does it reside within him. There is also a story about it, so let's know about it today.

A demon named Bhasmasura did penance for thousands of years and he was absorbed day and night in the worship of Lord Shiva. He is a demon, Shiva was aware of this, so he thought that it would not be appropriate to boon it. However, Shiva remained naive and he appeared and asked the demon to ask for a boon. At this, the demon sought a boon from Shiva that whatever he touched, should be consumed immediately. Shiva gave a boon to the demon. However, the demon got a wrong feeling in his mind and he started thinking that if he touches Lord Shiva and incinerates then no one will be superior to him in this world. Bhole Bhandari did not want to return empty-handed to his devotee and starts running for his life, during this time Vishnu Ji comes dressed as a siren. They started dancing in front of Bhasmasura as Mohini. With cleverness, Vishnu placed demon's hand on his head and he himself was consumed. This popular story or story proves the innocence of Shiva.
