New Delhi: Monsoon has wreaked havoc in several states of the country at present. In Barmer-Jalore, the monsoon has stopped in such a way that it is neither raining nor moving from there.

The Indian Meteorological Department said that the northern border of southwest monsoon is passing through Barmer, Bhilwara, Dholpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Ambala and Amritsar. After arriving in Kerala two days late, the Monsoon ran across the country covering eastern, central and adjoining north-west India 7 to 10 days. It also covered parts of North India including Barmer in Rajasthan, but some parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have not received good rainfall so far. While normally the monsoon reaches Delhi by June 27 and covers the entire country by July 8, it is expected to arrive on time.

Last year also, due to wind conditions, the monsoon reached Delhi on 25th June and by 29th June it covered the entire country. Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the regional forecasting centre of IMD, said Barmer is one of the few stations in western Rajasthan, which are normally covered by the southwest monsoon at the end. The southwest monsoon reaches western Rajasthan by the first week of July, but this year it covered Barmer two weeks before its normal schedule.

Who affected the speed of monsoon?
"A system in the Arabian Sea has affected the pace of this year's monsoon, that is why the Monsoon covered parts of Rajasthan, including Barmer, in early June," said Mrityunjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD. He said that "In the case of Delhi, Haryana, some parts of Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh and western Rajasthan, Monsoon comes from the Bay of East Bengal, but at present there is no active system in the Bay of Bengal which can help the eastern winds bring Monsoon to the region".
