Kochi: Kerala High Court has asked the Central government to reason for the gap between two doses of corona vaccine Covishield, a corona vaccine to prevent the corona epidemic. The court asked the Centre to provide scientific data on the impact if it is about the impact, asking the Centre the reason behind the 84-day gap fixed between two doses of COVISHIELD. The next hearing will be held on August 26.
The high court questioned whether the gap fixed between the dose of the vaccine has been kept according to its availability or in terms of its impact. The question was raised by Judge PB Suresh Kumar from the Centre who was hearing a petition filed by Kaitex Garments Limited. In the petition, the company has sought permission for the second dose of Covishield for its employees. The judge also said that he was worried if the gap between the two doses was about its effectiveness as he had taken the second dose within 4-6 weeks of the first dose.
The court said that if the availability of the vaccine is the reason for the gap between the two doses, others like Kaitex who are able to pay for the vaccine should be allowed for the second dose so that they do not have to wait for the second dose for 84 days. The court further said that if the reason for the gap is about the effectiveness of the vaccine, scientific data will have to be provided for the same. The matter with the direction has been listed for August 26.
