A heart-qualming matter has come to light from Jharkhand where a 40-year-old tribal widow who was mercilessly gang-raped by two local men about a year ago has alleged that the accused took away the child she conceived as a result of the crime. This case has come to light from the Narayanpur Soso village which falls under the jurisdiction of the Angada police station. The village is approximately 40 km from state capital Ranchi.

A matter came in attention of the police only after a group of villagers told informed local law enforcement officials about the plight of the rape survivor. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Silli, Chandra Shekhar told Hindustan Times that while the woman is yet to file an official complaint in this regard, a team has been formed to probe the matter. He also said that counsellors met with the woman on Thursday in order to convince her to register an official case against the duo.

At a due time a top official with the Jharkhand state commission was quoted as saying that police has acquired crucial evidence in this case. "We cannot say for sure that it is a matter of selling the infant by the accused," added the official.

A mother of three, the rape survivor told a correspondent with the national daily that her husband died about four years ago after which she faced ostracisation from the villagers. She worked as a daily wage worker to feed her 12-year-old daughter and two sons. However, in March of last year, the two accused namely Lalku Kumhar Munda and Rajkumar Munda barged into her home and raped her. The two returned to my home the next morning and threatened to kill me if I were to tell anyone about the incident which is why I kept quiet, she added.

However, she later realised that she was pregnant as a result of the crime. The accused then offered her food and money in exchange for bearing the child. A week after she gave birth to a baby girl, the duo came in and took the infant away.
