Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, imprisoned in a money laundering case, may get bail soon. His health has been deteriorating for a long time, for which he had filed a bail petition in the High Court on 25 March itself. On this, the Supreme Court has directed the Bombay High Court to expeditiously hear the bail plea of Anil Deshmukh.

Disposing of the matter, the Supreme Court said, 'We hope and trust that the matter will be heard expeditiously and the High Court will consider the petition.' Actually, Anil Deshmukh, while filing a petition in the apex court, said that the High Court is not hearing his bail plea, which is pending in the court since March 25. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Deshmukh's case, told Justices Ajay Rastogi and Justices B.V. Argued before the bench of Nagaratna that, "Anil Deshmukh is very ill, and is suffering from many diseases and is 73 years old." Sibal also said that Deshmukh's petition is pending in the High Court since March 25 and should be considered at the earliest.

Let us inform that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Anil Deshmukh on November 2, 2021 in the money laundering case. After this, in April this year, the CBI had taken Deshmukh into custody to investigate the allegations of corruption. Since then he has been lodged in jail in judicial custody. A few days ago, he was admitted to KEM Hospital in Mumbai after problems of chest pain, high BP and shoulder pain.
