New Delhi: The Finance Ministry can announce the extension to link the PAN to the Aadhaar by extending the deadline by the end of this year. This deadline is ending today. It is believed that tomorrow the Finance Ministry could announce the increase of deadline to link the Aadhaar to Pan. One source said that the government will decide on whether the time will be extended to link the PAN to the Aadhaar.

Hearing in the Supreme Court:

The case of special identification number Aadhaar is currently underway in the Supreme Court. The next date of hearing is in November. The timing of linking the Aadhaar for taking benefit of social sector schemes (Social Benefit Scheme) can be increased by the end of December.

These people are given exemption:

Section 139AA of Income Tax Act states that every person who had PAN number on July 1, 2017 and he is eligible to get the Aadhaar, he has to give information of his Aadhaar number to the income tax authorities. However, such people who come to the NRIs under the Income Tax Act, who are not citizens of India, people of the age of 80 years, people of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir are exempted from this mandatory.

However, going ahead in the absence of linking the Aadhaar with PAN, your income tax return will not be valid and the IT department will not make it an assessment.
