Mumbai: The vote of one MLA each is crucial for political parties in the Rajya Sabha elections. Every time the Rajya Sabha elections see a pull-out for one vote each, which continues even now. Somewhere the MLAs are being locked up in a resort together, somewhere the MLAs are being sent to another state. Amid this attempt to save one vote each, the vote of two MLAs of Maharashtra's ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi Alliance (MVA) is for the court to decide.

In fact, two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik are currently in jail. Former minister Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik, a minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government, have filed a petition in the court to cast their votes in the Rajya Sabha elections. Both have appealed to the court to allow voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. On the other hand, enforcement directorate (ED) officials have said that they will oppose their appeal.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, Sriram Shirsat and Sunil Sunil Gonsalves appeared in the court on behalf of the ED. Amit Desai argued on behalf of Anil Deshmukh. Amit Desai urged for simultaneous hearing of the cases of Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik. Desai has also demanded that the investigating agency file its reply by evening so that the matter can be heard within the day itself.
