Kochi: Another health crisis has arisen in Kerala after a 12-year-old boy died of Nipah virus on Sunday. Kerala is already reeling under the corona epidemic. In new cases of infection in the country, 60 percent of the cases are coming from Kerala itself. The state government has issued a health alert in Kozhikode district after receiving Nipah virus and also appealed for precautions in neighbouring districts. The child who lost his life had symptoms of encephalitis and myocarditis on September 3.

Tell us that the Nipah virus is spread by the saliva of bats. Nipah can be infected if the bat has infected fruit and is eaten. This virus can spread from one person to another, although it is not a fully certified fact. However, a study has confirmed that a droplet from the infected person's breath can spread the virus. Two health workers exposed to a dead child in Kerala have also been diagnosed with Nipah virus infection. According to media reports, the Nipah virus spreads much slower than covid-19. However, deaths from this infection are extremely alarming.

For the first time in Siliguri, West Bengal, 45 people lost their lives in 66 infected people when the infection spread. That is, the mortality rate was 68 percent. Then, in 2007, all five infected people lost their lives in The Nadia district of West Bengal. According to a study, 105 patients died of a total of 265 infected people with Nipah virus in Malaysia in 1999. Compared to the corona epidemic, the mortality rate so far has been about 1 percent. India currently has a 1.34 percent mortality rate from the coronavirus.
