Amritsar: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which has been in power in Punjab for a long time, is likely to return to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections next year. On the anniversary of Operation Blue Star, the SAD leader has hinted at going with the BJP. Regarding the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Maheshinder Singh Grewal of SAD said that he will not go with the Congress at all.

"We cannot go with the Congress because of Operation Blue Star. If the BJP comes to the conclusion that colleagues should be given due respect, then nothing is impossible in politics. SAD walked out of the NDA in 2020 over the issue of three repealed farm laws." SAD was continuously with BJP since 1997. However, during the farmers' agitation, SAD strongly opposed the BJP. However, now after the death of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the closeness between SAD and BJP seems to be increasing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were among those who paid their last respects to Parkash Singh Badal. During this, PM Modi also wrote an emotional article after the death of Parkash Singh Badal. He had said that with Badal's demise, he has lost a father figure who had shown him the way for decades. Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (Secular) or JDS, which became the third largest party in the Karnataka elections, has also shown a positive attitude towards coming together with the BJP. Amid an exercise of 'opposition unity' ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, JDS chief and former PM HD Deve Gowda said he is yet to take a decision on any alliance. However, while at least a dozen parties are demanding the resignation of the Railway Minister over the Odisha train accident, the JDS has categorically denied it.

"The Railway Minister has taken all necessary steps to compensate for the losses. He is working tirelessly. Let the investigation be completed. The minister is doing his best and it is not wise to seek his resignation at this stage. Deve Gowda's statement is being seen as a positive sign towards the BJP."
