New Delhi: The hearing on an appeal filed in connection with the restoration of 27 Hindu and Jain temples in the Qutub Minar complex at Mehrauli in the country's capital, delhi, was completed today in the Saket court. During the hearing, the petitioners told the court that the Qutub Minar was built on the site of the mosque temple located in the premises. After hearing the case, the court reserved its order and fixed June 9 as the date for pronouncement of the verdict.

Advocate Hari Shankar Jain, appearing for the Hindu side, said the Qutub Minar was constructed by demolishing 27 Hindu and Jain temples. Statues of many Hindu gods and goddesses are still present here today. In view of this, Hindus should be allowed to worship in the Qutub Minar complex. The Hindu side also claims that the 1600-year-old iron pillar and object of worship exist here even today. There are also verses taken in Sanskrit on this pillar. The case has been filed by the Hindu side's counsel Hari Shankar Jain and advocate Ranjana Agnihotri.

During the hearing, the court asked the petitioners, "Do you think it is a memorial or a place of worship?" Which legal right gives you the right to convert a monument into a place of worship? The petitioner Jain read out Section 16 of the AMASR Act 1958, a protected monument protected by the central government under the Act which is a place of worship or a place of pilgrimage shall not be used for any purpose inconsistent with its character. After which the Saket court said that the verdict on the case will be pronounced on June 9.
