India achieved this feat by winning all the three matches in the Round-3 of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. The Indian team has made it to the tournament for the fifth time over the hour. The Indian team has previously participated in tournaments in 1964, 1984, 2011 and 2019.

According to media reports, the All India Football Association (AIFF) had appointed an astrologer for the national team ahead of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. An insider in the team told the media, "A motivator was appointed for Team India before the Asian Cup. Later, it was discovered that the company with which the contract was signed is a company associated with astrology. A hefty payment of Rs 16 lakh was also made for it." India had beaten Cambodia and Afghanistan in the opening two matches in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. While India had won 2-0 against Cambodia, Afghanistan was defeated 2-1 by Sunil Chhetri's team.
After this, in their final match, India defeated Hong Kong 4-0 to take the top position in their group. The Indian Football Association is already surrounded by controversies. FIFA has set a deadline to end the ongoing controversy in Indian football. FIFA has given it time till July 31 to ratify the Constitution of the Indian Football Association and september 15 to hold elections. Failing to do so could result in a ban on the AIFF by FIFA.
