New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday approved the Commission For Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas, the Bill, 2021. It provides for better measures on issues related to the Air Quality Index in and around NCR. Introducing the bill, Forest Environment and Climate Change Minister Bhupinder Yadav said that the government is fully committed to environmental protection.

The bill has been introduced to fulfill the government's commitment to addressing air pollution in and around NCR. He said the reasons for the increase in air pollution in Delhi in the last few years include traffic, pollution, and burning of organic waste, etc. Yadav further said that a united institution was necessary to tackle the problem. It is for this purpose that this bill has been brought.

He said it covers environmental experts as well as people from areas close to the NCR. Special attention needs to be paid to all sources of air pollution, which are connected to various economic sectors including electricity, agriculture, transport, industry, residential, and construction.
