New Delhi: Will up assembly elections be postponed early next year? The Allahabad High Court has appealed to the PM and the Election Commission to postpone the UP elections for some time amid a growing threat to the new corona variant Omicron. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that it is only for the Election Commission to decide whether elections should be held or not.

Anurag Thakur said on Friday that when the election commission of the country imposes a model code of conduct, they have to decide when the elections will be held. In view of the forthcoming state elections, the Election Commission and the Union Health Secretary are scheduled to meet on December 27. After which it will be decided whether it is proper to hold elections in view of the corona. The meeting will deliberate on the possibility of postponing next year's assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa and Manipur.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur also reacted to the GST raids in Uttar Pradesh. "We are constantly trying to ensure that people working in this country get the ease of doing business, we have also worked for One Nation-One Tax. Tax evaders will not be spared at all.'' In the recent past, GST raided the premises of Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders in UP in which cash was allegedly recovered in a prominent way.
