London: Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, setting up a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s thrilling encounter.
Alcaraz, 21, secured his place in the final after a hard-fought match against fifth seed Daniil Medvedev. Despite losing the first set in a tiebreak, Alcaraz rallied to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, mirroring his performance in last year’s semi-finals. His victory over Medvedev brings him back to the final, where he aims to defend his title.
Djokovic reached his 10th Wimbledon final by defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. Returning to Centre Court after expressing frustration with the crowd's behavior earlier in the week, the 37-year-old showcased his skill by overcoming Musetti’s dynamic play, winning 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
After his victory over Musetti, Djokovic faced boos from the crowd as he celebrated by mimicking playing a violin. This celebration, a tribute to his six-year-old daughter who is learning the instrument, has become a signature move in his recent Wimbledon victories.
Last summer, Alcaraz claimed his first Wimbledon title and second Grand Slam by defeating Djokovic. Since then, he has added the French Open to his achievements. Djokovic, meanwhile, bounced back by winning his fourth US Open title. If Djokovic triumphs this week, he will tie Roger Federer’s record with his eighth Wimbledon title.
The stage is set for another exciting final between Djokovic and Alcaraz, promising fans a thrilling conclusion to Wimbledon 2024.
