Srinagar: Cold wave conditions continued from morning till dusk and severe cold conditions in the Kashmir valley have broken all the years old records. Srinagar city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Such low temperatures in the city have broken the record for the past 25 years. Weather officials have reported that the city recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.3 degrees in 1995. Today's temperature was minus 8.4 degrees.

Dal Lake in Srinagar has also been completely frozen due to cold. At the airport, an Indigo flight reached very close to several feet high ice mounds that had gathered before take-off yesterday and the engine of the aircraft was grounded by a pile of snow. However, no damage was caused to the aircraft and passengers. This night was the coldest night in Srinagar in 25 years. However, we are not likely to fall further in the coming days. The state is facing a severe cold period of 40 days, which will end on January 31.

On Thursday, Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus 11.1 degrees and Gulmarg at minus 7.0 degrees. Leh city in Ladakh recorded a temperature of minus 16.8 degrees, Kargil minus 19.6 degrees and DRAs minus 28.3 degrees. Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 5.9 degrees, Katra 4.8 degrees, Batote 6.1 degrees, Benihal 6.2 degrees and Bhadrawah 0.3 degrees.
