2019 saw the introduction of the avatar feature of Facebook Messenger and its News Feed. It was added to the Stories and Comments section of the app a year later.

Avatars were also introduced on Instagram earlier this year.
In October this year, the feature was rolled out to a small number of beta users on both iOS and Android for testing.

According to WhatsApp's parent company Meta, your avatar is a digital representation of yourself that can be created from countless combinations of different hairstyles, facial features and clothing.

Many people will be creating their first avatar with it, and we will continue to release style improvements like lighting, shading, different hairstyle textures and more to make avatars even better over time.

Make sure you are using the latest version of the app to create an avatar on WhatsApp.

Go to "Settings" and then tap on "Avatar" to continue. Use various customization options, such as skin tone, hairstyle, nose and eyes, to create your unique avatar.

Click "Done" once you are happy with the appearance.
