BANGALORE: The residents of Karnataka marked the occasion of Naga Panchami, also recognized as the Nagara Panchami festival, with deep religious devotion on Monday.

Naga Panchami holds a significant place in the state's festivities as it is dedicated to venerating the serpent deity. A multitude of devout followers flocked to temples to partake in prayer ceremonies.

In the rural locales of the region, families made pilgrimages to anthills to offer milk within their crevices and performed unique religious rituals. This day holds great reverence for devotees, often linked to the commemoration of Krishna's triumph over the King cobra, an event known as "Kalinga Mardan" in Hindu texts.

The central practice of this serpent-focused day is the pouring of milk into anthill openings and the earth itself. Exclusive dishes, particularly sesame ladoos, were meticulously crafted for this occasion. In the northern reaches of Karnataka, newlywed daughters were invited back to their parental homes for the celebration.

This festival, celebrated over three days in certain parts of the state, is often hailed as a celebration of womanhood. In the urban hub of IT activities, Bengaluru, devotees thronged to temples, causing traffic disruptions around the major religious sites.

Extending his felicitations to the public, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conveyed, "Every facet of nature is a manifestation of divinity. Nagara Panchami's primary essence lies in the veneration of nature, promoting balance within it. May the Nagara Panchami festival usher in joy, tranquility, and prosperity. I extend my heartfelt wishes to the citizens of the state on this Nagara Panchami," stated CM Siddaramaiah.
